chapel of Just Saint and Holy Rufina

In the way up of the mountain you can see the pretty chapel of Just Saint and Holy Rufina and the magnificent scenery in all the directions.

In the Prehistory, the village was occupying the highest zones of this land, for a question of defense, in the places of the mining exploration. Later, the people moved for the long valley (Vallis Longus).
Near the Santa Justa chapel you can find also S. Sabino chapel (WP1). It’s the name of the saint who his hands were cutted because he rescued Santa Justa body from a hole and put her in a cemetery.
The mountain of Santa Justa integrates the Paleozoic Park of Valongo, of enormous value paleontologic and archaeological, where you can find a great number of sea fossils (trilobites), because 500 million years ago this region was submerged!
You´ll be able to find also an enormous variety of fauna and plants, including several sorts of insectivorous plants.
The auriferous mines explored by the Romans for gold extraction in the centuries I and II are one of the most emblematic places of the mountain Santa Justa, natural and archaeological inheritance, serving now of habitat to rare species like three families of fetuses and Portuguese salamanders.
